Kajrat is a hilly paradise on the outskirts of Mumbai. The historical caves, dazzling waterfalls, trekking options and plush farmhouses make it one of the perfect weekend gateways from Mumbai. If you are planning a visit to this place and are not aware which are the destinations that you need to witness there is ready help in store.

How you plan to reach Karjat

The place has good connectivity by road and rail. From Mumbai it is around 1.5 hours’ drive via Panel and from Pune it is roughly 2 hours. Another way to reach this place is to take a train from Mumbai or Pune and land at Karjat railway station. There are numerous high quality resorts in Karjat if you are planning a weekend stay. Below are some of the popular places to visit here

Peth Fort

It is also referred to as the Kothaligad fort, that is a small fort near the Peth village. This is an ancient hill regime that is captured by various regimes at different times including the Mughals, Marathas and the British. Situated at a distance of 28 km from the Kajrat railway station this happens to be a popular hiking spot. The trek from this fort begins at the Peth village and to reach the top would take around 1 hour.

Reaching on top of the village would also require a 1 hour trek as the connecting road is not great. If you are looking to avoid this additional trek you can reach the village by a SUV. The trail to the top of the hilltop offer a scenic view and passes through thick forests. For the beginners it would be difficult to trek. The climb to the summit would get steeper once you start to reach the top.

But the moment you reach the top you are rewarded with outstanding views of the verdure and outstanding hills. In addition there is a cave and a small temple at the top. Through the rock cut stairs you can also reach to the top.

Bhivpuri waterfall

The tranquil environs of the place attracts people from the nearby areas in large numbers. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoon months as you can witness cascades of water, as the waterfall creates a charming pool beneath that is ideal for a refreshing trip. This place is counted to be the best in the region for adventure and nature lovers. From Bhivpuri road the waterfall is around 30 minutes walk away If you are planning to reach this place from the Kajrat railway station then you can hire an auto rickshaw and ask them to drop you at the Ashane village. Then you can trek to the waterfall.

N D films world

If you are an avid lover of Indian cinema, with the sets and process of film making then better to visit the N D films world. I caught a glimpse of this studio when I was on my way from Mumbai to Pune. It is spread over an area of 43 acres and some of the famous Indian movies have been short here. At the entrance there are some legendary cravings of popular Indian actors. The moment you enter this place, it is like a wonderland showcasing palaces, a mini- village and another set. Buggies are there inside the film world to take you from place to another. Note that it is not a full day trip as a couple of hours will more than suffice to visit this place.

Kondana caves

This is one of the best places to visit when you are in Kajrat. It turns out to be an ancient complex of British caves. These rock cut structures were once the place of worship and it is situated at a distance of 13 km away from the Kajrat railway station. Under the archaeological survey of India it is a protected monument. Another added attraction are the seasonal waterfalls that may disappear after the rainy season. If you are planning to visit the place for the first time it is suggested that you hire a guide. The reason being that the caves are concealed in thick forests.

Ulhas valley

This place is famous for the scenic water trails known for its cascading waterfalls and rich flora. The valley provides a spectacular view of the green surroundings. For adventure lovers and trekkers it is one of the best places to visit in Karjat. The path of tracking starts from Khandala and then you need to descend on to the valley and then you may ascend back to your base location. It happens to be an entire day adventure trip. During the trip carry a backup of extra pair of clothes torch kit and other accessories.

Kondeshwar temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the temple is situated amidst the hills of Badlapur which is around 37 km from Kajrat. The temple is clean and tidy. In the surroundings you are likely to come across greenery and it is one of the best places to visit in Kajrat for a half day trip. The waterfall is located just behind the lake though it is barricaded. Apart from the main temple there are small shrines in the premises. Sometimes due to the heavy downpour in the rainy season these shrines tends to get submerged.

Ulhas river

The river follows you once you enter Kajrat. For river rafting the place is popular. Due to the high speed rapids, the place is known to provide an amazing rafting experience. Being an adventure lover it is one of the best places to visit when you are at Kajrat. Monsoon season is the best time to participate in this activity since the rivers are full. But it is offered during the year. The rafting lasts for a couple of hours and covers around 6 to 7 km. When it comes to the charges it varies between Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 every person.
